The University of Wisconsin – La Crosse Department of Theatre Arts is proud to present the honour winning Urinetown: The Musical by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis. Winner of iii Tony Awards, iii Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the authorities, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Performances are March one-two and 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees on March 3 & 10 at 2:00 p.grand. in the Toland Theatre, Middle for the Arts on the corner of 16th and Vine Streets, La Crosse.
Greeted by the bear witness's self-aware narrators—the seasoned Officeholder Lockstock and the youthful street urchin Little Sally—the audience learns of a town plagued past debilitating water shortages and economic hardships. What fiddling water is left is portioned and taxed by Urine Skilful Company, headed past the seemingly suave, simply conniving CEO, Caldwell B. Cladwell. Unfortunately, for the ever-growing poverty-stricken populace, this means that bathrooms are now public and tightly controlled with stringent punishments for those who "pee" without "payin'." The people have accepted this handling in fear of existence sent to the terrible place of "Urinetown." Sick of the mistreatment and regulation, hero Bobby Stiff rises, and plans a revolution to lead him and his friends all to liberty! Simply volition he exist able to free his people and follow his eye? Will the downtrodden citizens of the city be able to rising in a higher place and trounce downward the powers that oppress them? Will justice trump inequality?
Junior Biological science and Theatre Operation Minor, Gabe Ross, who plays the villian Caldwell B. Cladwell, stated that "This show is, arguably, more relevant at present than it was at the time information technology was written. It pokes fun at the flaws in capitalism, abuse and sustainability, all of which brand headlines every twenty-four hour period. My favorite part of Urinetown process has been breaking into laughter on phase every time someone finds a new bit. The show allows u.s. to have a lot of fun. This show is admittedly hilarious, entertaining, and has a lot of clear symbolism backside its whimsy. My but regret in beingness bandage is that I can't sit in the audience on opening night!"
